Hello, my name is Jasha Craze. I have been an English secondary school teacher since 2016 and have been teaching English as a foreign language since 2012. Previous to training as an English secondary school teacher in 2016 I had lots of school related experience, and I feel that this has helped me massively in my career, not only because it prepared me for life as a teacher, but also because a wide variety of school experience helped me understand the needs of children with a range of abilities, including children with SEN.

A Passion for English

I am extremely passionate about my subject, but I am very aware that not all students may share that passion. For those that do, I am keen to nurture this interest, and help it grow in a way that would not only help them access the skills they need to successfully pass their GCSEs, SATs or A Levels, but also give them the skills which help them thrive in the real world. For students who do find it hard to engage in the subject, with positive encouragement and differentiated materials, I make them see that they can pass and they can enjoy the process; there is so much about the subject which can be interesting and can give them the skills to make day-to-day life easier.

My Experience

Private Tutoring Since 2019

I have been private tutoring since 2019. I have taught an array of levels, from students with learning difficulties and SEN needs, to grade nine students and extremely high ability students who wish to secure their grade. I have also tutored adults who have found that later on in life that they would benefit from their English GCSE. I love working one-to-one with people, and making my teaching suit their needs. My previous and current students have always been very positive about my tutoring and have found it has given them the confidence they need – whether in school, in the workplace or in their exams.

Teaching in Mainstream Secondary Schools

As I have been teaching for six years now in mainstream schools in Cornwall, I am extremely familiar with the KS3 and GCSE curriculum. I have also worked as a supply teacher in both primary and A Level settings. I know all of the GCSE texts and exam criteria and what the examiners are looking for. I know how to ‘tick all of the boxes’. I like to have continuity in my lessons, so if I know a tutee will be with me for a set amount of time, I will work on a topic with them across a number of weeks, until they have the confidence to move on. I can work at the pace a child or their parent wants them to work at.

In addition to my variety of experience in both teaching and tutoring, I am still currently teaching in a secondary school in mid-Cornwall. I have been teaching there part-time since January 2022 whilst growing my private English tutoring provision and plan on continuing to do so for the foreseeable future. This means that I am very up to date with the curriculum and any changes going on. I also know what your child is experiencing in a classroom environment and I also understand the role of your child’s teacher. As well as a tutor, I am a teacher. Therefore, knowing the learning experience as a whole, I feel like my experience would be even more beneficial to your child.

Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)

In terms of my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) experience (if you are visiting my page as somebody interested in learning English as a foreign language), I have worked at four separate summer schools and taught TEFL online throughout my career. I know that both grammar and vocabulary are very important focuses in terms of confidence building, and I would work with a structure which would suit your learning style. I would make sure we followed a clear structure and had time to practice conversation in each lesson – learning a language is not solely about writing. You will want real-life skills. I would be thrilled to be a part of this exciting language learning journey!

Final Words

So, whatever your background or age, if you are interested in improving your skills in English – or have a child who needs further support or encouragement outside of school, please do not hesitate to get in touch. I deliver my lessons mainly on Skype, but if you live close to the Redruth or Falmouth area, I would definitely consider coming to you for in-person lessons as I know that online lessons are not suitable in all cases. I am a highly empathetic person and coupled with using a range of teaching skills which I have learnt throughout my career, I will also use praise and positive encouragement to help you – or your child – feel more confident in the subject.
